Will writing & Executorship matters
It is still quite amazing how many people in this country do not have a valid will in existence. The reasons vary from 'I have never got round to it', through 'I do not have much to leave to anyone' to 'well it all goes to my wife so what's the point'. Or, very simply, they may have got married or divorced which immediately invalidates previous wills.
People seem to think that making a will is something that is going to cost the earth or in someway prompt something unpleasant to happen. The reverse is actually true as, not making a will can not only lose money from your estate, but could also put your family in difficult circumstances' which may be slow and costly to resolve. Most importantly, all the value you have worked for may not go to the parties you wish it to.
If you are an individual then it is possible that your affairs are fairly straightforward but if you have a business or numerous investments and property then you need to think very carefully about the future and what would happen if you die without a will.
Just stop and think for a moment about your loved ones who, in the midst of grieving your loss, also discover that the business that you ran has to cease because you have not given anyone the legal power to run it, all the money is in your name and cannot be touched until probate is granted and so no bills can be paid for six months or more. Whereas the existence of a will allows the Executor of your estate to keep all the wheels turning while the legal matters are being resolved.
