History

The company was formed in 1974 by the founding partner Peter Moulton. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, Peter spent some years working for the Lex Service Group as a regional Financial Controller and then Hertz Rentacar as an Assistant European Internal Audit Manager. The company was originally known as Moulton & Co. and despite modest beginnings operating from Peter's home, it was soon moving into its first offices in Woking, Surrey.

In 1982, Ian Johnson, a friend of many years and fellow musician, with several years experience with Deloittes, joined Peter in partnership and a second office was opened in Epping, Essex.

During the years that followed, the practice changed its name to Moulton Johnson and steadily expanded both its client base and number of team members. This expansion led to several office moves culminating with the current locations, which are strategically placed either side of London, enabling the practice to service both London and the Home Counties.

The partners have always tried to ensure that all the MJ team have the same goals in putting the clients' needs first and providing the highest levels of service and advice possible. Over the years, most of our clients have also become close friends of not just the partners, but also the team members. We have been blessed with a fairly consistent team of core members for a number of years which not only keeps the family atmosphere but also provides consistency for our clients.

None of us can predict the future but it is hoped that the up-and-coming members will continue the development of MJ as the more experienced members imbue them with the standards gleaned from 25 years in the pursuit of excellence.
